Job Title Outside Sales

Reports To Branch Manager and District Manager

Classification Full-time; Salary plus commission opportunity; Exempt

Location Wichita, Kansas

Hours Monday-Friday 7:00am – 5:00pm . Some Saturdays 7:00am – noon. Other hours as needed.

Summary

Established in 1970, Midway Wholesale is a distributor of building products, including commercial and residential roofing, siding, masonry, and exterior doors and windows. With ten locations and about 160 employees across Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska, Midway Wholesale has the informal atmosphere of a small business, with the benefits of a large company. The Outside Sales role is responsible for maintaining and growing a customer base. The Outside Sales role represents Midway Wholesale in the Wichita, KS community and surrounding areas, at events such as Chamber of Commerce activities and annual Home Shows.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

· Develops specific sales goals with the Branch Manager, District Manager, and Vice President, and develops plans to prioritize work and achieve these goals. Accountable for maintaining and growing a customer list.

· Makes cold calls to prospective customers to generate business. Visits potential and current customers’ places of business to evaluate needs or promote the company’s products and services.

· Establishes and maintains interpersonal relationships, within the company and outside the company. Develops constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintains them over time.

· Negotiates prices or terms of sales and/or service agreements.

· Assists with day-to-day branch operations, including answering phone calls, assisting customers in the sales office, answering questions about products/prices/availability, loading materials, etc.

· Discusses credit terms with customers, working closely with the District Manager and Credit Manager.

· Manages orders, including preparing and placing orders, following up on the order’s status, ensuring delivery of orders occurs, and settling disputes about orders, deliveries, or billing.

· Follows up on claims of damages.

· May be called upon to assist in product delivery.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Proven ability to meet and exceed sales goals is required. High school diploma or equivalent is required. College degree strongly preferred. Relevant industry knowledge and sales experience may be substituted for degree. Must maintain a valid driver’s license with a clear driving record.

A significant level of trust is required as this position is exposed to sensitive and confidential information which cannot be shared outside of the company. Diplomacy, courtesy, and tact is required. Demonstrated ability to foster sound professional relationships with vendors is necessary.

These activities are not necessarily performed to the same degree and combination every day.

Travel and Work Environment

Travel is primarily local during the business day. This job operates in a variety of locations including a professional office environment, a warehouse environment, and in the field on job sites, at vendor locations, meeting potential clients, etc. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copy machines, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
